LIME KILN -- A flagman directing traffic as his company's construction crew worked to repair damaged lines was killed about 2:55 p.m. Friday when he was run over by a co-worker's bucket truck, according to Maryland State Police. The fatal pedestrian accident, which occurred on Md. 85 near Lime Kiln Road north of Buckeystown , closed a section of Buckeystown Pike for more than two hours. Late Friday, after police notified the victim's family, they identified the man killed as Carroll Michael Rehmert, 57, of Brooklyn Park, Md. Sgt. Rob Embly said the flagman worked for LAI Construction in Perry Hall, Baltimore County. Representatives of the construction company could not be reached for comment Friday night. In a news release, police said Rehmert had stopped traffic heading north on Md. 85 when he was hit. The bucket truck, being operated by Anthony Wayne Lamburn, 37, of Alum Bank, Pa., was backing up to repair a line when he hit Rehmert, police said. "Rehmert was then pulled underneath of the rear axle of the motor vehicle," the release stated. "Lamburn then pulled forward out of a state of panic, running over Rehmert a second time." Rehmert was pronounced dead at the scene. A prosecutor and an investigator with the Frederick County State's Attorney's Office responded to the scene Friday, which is normal procedure whenever a fatality occurs. The investigation of the circumstances leading up to the death is ongoing, Embly said. No charges have been filed. Cpl. Eric Corbin, the supervisor at the crash scene, said the flagman was hit when the driver of the bucket truck put his vehicle in reverse. Maryland Occupational Safety and Health was notified, and witnesses gave statements to police. Ed Johnson, chief of the Carroll Manor Fire Co., said a Germantown firetruck and its crew were first on the scene. They were returning to Montgomery County after a training detail in Frederick and were in the area when the 911 call was received. They arrived within minutes and notified Carroll Manor of the fatality, Johnson said. Staff writer Gina Gallucci-White contributed to this report.
