Man allegedly hit ex-girlfriend with car

A Frederick man faces assault charges after he allegedly backed his car into his former girlfriend Wednesday, the Frederick Police Department said.

Officer Sean Carpenter was called to the 100 block of Featherstone Place in the Taskers Choice area about 8:10 p.m. for a domestic dispute, police said.

Carpenter learned that Quentin W. Koonce, 23, had been arguing with his former girlfriend in the parking lot, police said.

Koonce then got into his 2003 Chevy Impala, put the car in gear, and backed into the woman, knocking her to the ground and injuring her left hand, police said. Police did not give the woman's name.

While investigating, Carpenter found that Koonce's Georgia driver's license was suspended.

Koonce was arrested and charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless driving, negligent driving and driving on a suspended license.

Drug patrol nets three

Three men were arrested on drug charges during a saturation patrol this week in the Discovery neighborhood and surrounding areas of Walkersville , according to the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.

Residents had complained about drugs in the area, resulting in the patrol by the sheriff's office Pro-Active Criminal Enforcement Team.

About 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Cpl. Corey Borns stopped Peter William Esveld III, 36, of Walkersville , on Stauffer Road near Vision Lane for driving with a broken right headlight, deputies said. Esveld was driving on a suspended license. Esveld told Borns he had marijuana and a pipe in his vehicle. He was taken to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center and charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

About 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Deputy First Class David Keefer stopped Joshua Jay Sturdevant, 20, of Walkersville , on Woodsboro Pike, near Stauffer Road, for failing to stop at a stop sign, deputies said. Keefer wrote a warning for the violation, then asked permission to search the vehicle. Sturdevant consented and a pipe was found. Marijuana was also taken from a passenger, who has not been charged. Sturdevant was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and released at the scene.

About 12:20 a.m. Wednesday, Deputy First Class David Keefer spoke to Andrew Philip Lambert, 20, of Woodsboro , in the Sheetz store parking lot. Lambert gave the deputy permission to search him. Officers seize marijuana

While executing a search and seizure warrant Wednesday, officers with the city's drug enforcement unit found about 1.6 ounces of marijuana, according to the Frederick Police Department.

The warrant at 31 E. Seventh St. was prompted by complaints, police said.

When officers served the warrant about 6:55 p.m., they found resident Paul Travis Cox, 18, inside and 47 grams of marijuana in the area where Cox was sitting, police said.

The officers seized the marijuana, as well as an undisclosed amount of currency found on Cox.

Swerving, correcting results in crash

Four people were injured, none critically, in a two-car collision Wednesday on Md. 75 north of Lewisdale Road in Hyattstown, Maryland State Police said.

Santos Rivas, age and address unknown, was driving a 2000 Honda Civic north on Md. 75 about 4:50 p.m. when a southbound 2000 Nissan Maxima, driven by Eva Arroyo, 40, of Libertytown , crossed the center line and hit Rivas' car head-on, police said.

Police believe Rivas initially crossed the center line into the path of the Nissan driven by Arroyo. Rivas corrected and swerved back into his lane at the same time Arroyo took evasive action and swerved into the northbound lane, where the crash occurred.

Arroyo and a passenger in the Civic, Jose Rivas, 34, were flown by state police helicopter to Washington County Hospital, police said. Santos Rivas was taken by ambulance to Suburban Hospital in Montgomery County. A juvenile passenger from Arroyo's vehicle was taken by ambulance to Children's Hospital in Washington.

None of the injuries were life-threatening, police said. Both drivers and their passengers were wearing seat belts.

Police are investigating. Anyone who witnessed the crash should call Trooper First Class C. Michael at 301-600-4150.
