My mother was an absolutely wonderful lady. She was always concerned
about the well-being of others, always putting that in front of her own
needs. It was said that she possessed the "Midas touch" because all
people she encountered would benefit from her golden influence. She
taught me how to be a good person. She also had an endearing sense of
humor.
I'll never forget being on the porch of our house in Florida.
Only a very small canal separated our property from the 14th tee of a
local golf course. My mom would be pretending to sweep the porch with
her head down. During one of the unsuspecting golfer's backswings, my
sixty-something year old mom would yell "LOOK OUT!!" Alas the poor
golfer would then hook his ball into the canal and cast a frustrated
look over in our general direction. All he would see is this little old
lady sweeping her porch ...
My mother was very devout in her religious beliefs, and would always be
there when people needed her. Her generosity and thoughtfulness was
unparalleled. She passed away in early 1984. I still think about her
and miss her a lot. My only regret is that she never got to meet my
daughter. I do know though that she is looking down on us all from above.
