Under the red sands of Shaybah lie petroleum reserves estimated at 14 billion barrels. With the introduction of "hoizontal drilling" techniques in the 1990s, extraction of this coveted grade of crude oil began in earnest in this remote outpost in the Empty Quarter. For our group, the magic of sunset over these red dunes was sufficient.
