Corniche Slide Show

Located on the banks of the Red Sea coast, Jeddah is famous for a 20-mile stretch of coastal road, known as the Corniche.

This avenue is distinguished from other major thoroughfares by the presence of imposing works of structural and architectural art, executed by a host of international artists, from Henry Moore, LaFuente, and Vasarely, to Cesar, Arp, and Miro.

Jeddah's Open Air "Art Collection," initially promoted by the city's mayor in 1972, decorates the shoreline and roundabouts. Driving along the Corniche, one marvels at the unexpected appearance of these works. They range in spirit from whimsical to serious, addressing contemporary, as well as historic, themes.

With one of the world's most amazing art outdoor galleries, Jeddah left an indelible mark on this traveler as her Arabian Adventure unfolded.
