When Morton Caster woke up Sunday morning to get ready for the Frederick Running Festival, he checked the temperature.

Morton Caster (left), a 24-year-old surgical tech who lives in Westminster, won the men’s title in 2:44.57.

Becki Pierotti, a 24-year old who hopes to become a physical therapist, won the women’s title in 3:14.49.

    As one of the smallest competitors on the course Saturday, Brin Strouse could've easily gotten lost in the sea of legs at Saturday's Twilight 5-Kilometer Run.

    She is just 9 years old, after all.

    "I ran the whole race," Strouse said.

    When she crossed the finish line on the track at the Great Frederick Fairgrounds, she stood among all the grown-ups, proud of what she has just accomplished -- an astounding third-place finish in the women's race. more »

    Thousands attend expo on eve of marathon


    Rachel Ridgway participated in the first Frederick Marathon, in 2003, running in a March blizzard with 500 other competitors. The following year she volunteered to assist race organizers.

    For the past five years she has served as race organizer.

    DONALD LANG WAS THE last finisher in Sunday's Frederick Marathon, but that did not diminish his accomplishment. When the 70-year old man got to the finish line long after most of the other runners had crossed it, it marked the 392nd time he has completed a marathon or an ultramarathon, all since he was 55 years old. more »
