From Staff Reports

WESTMINSTER -- The host Owls scored 17 straight points after spotting Urbana (4-1, 0-1 Chesapeake) a 3-0 lead in the first quarter and then held off Urbana in the second half for a 17-15 win on Friday.

Ray Durante kicked a 23-yard field goal for the Hawks in the first quarter before the Owls took the lead. Ross Flanigan scored both touchdowns for Urbana .

He returned a kickoff 95 yards in the second quarter and broke a 61-yard scoring run in the third quarter. Flanigan rushed for 64 yards on 14 carries. Quarterback Jesse Heon completed 12-of-37 passes for 143 yards with two interceptions.

Brad Hickman had seven catches for 71 yards for Urbana .

Clarksburg 55, Poolesville 0

CLARKSBURG -- It took Clarksburg less than eight minutes to take command of its Friday game with Poolesville and set the stage for a blowout win.

The Coyotes scored on their first four possessions of the game, all in the first quarter, and cruised all the way to a 55-0 rout of the winless Falcons. Clarksburg goes to 5-0 at mid-season.

A short Poolesville punt gave Clarksburg the ball at its own 45-yard line for its first possession of the game. On the first play following the punt, Clarksburg quarterback Cody Martin hit Myles Daughtry on stride with a 55-yard touchdown pass and Patrick Isaacs added the extra-point kick.

On the ensuing kickoff, Poolesville, which suffered its fourth shutout in five games, fumbled the kick at the Falcon 12 and Clarksburg got the ball back. Two plays later, Avery Graham scored on a 1-yard plunge with 9:41 to go in the quarter, Isaacs made his kick and it was a 14-0 game.

Two minutes later, Martin hit Daughtry with a 13-yard TD strike. Three minutes after that, Mark Small scored on a 3-yard run, Isaacs made his kick and Clarksburg was up by a 27-0 count. He also scored on a 14-yard run in the second quarter.

The Coyotes continued to capitalize on what could be best described as a total Falcon meltdown the rest of the way. Clarksburg led 48-0 at the half, the entire second half was played with a running clock, and coach Larry Hurd began using his substitutes freely during the second half.

Tyler Stevens was the top rusher for Clarksburg with 99 yards on nine carries. Isaacs, who spends most of his time specializing as the Coyotes' extra-point kicker, got three carries on offense and rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns, including a 71-yard run in the third quarter, which would be the final TD of the game for Clarksburg.

Quarterback Cody Martin completed 3-of-4 passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Daughtry caught all three passes.

For Poolesville, nothing went right on Friday. The Falcons, who scored their first points of the season in a 28-19 loss last week to Northwood, turned the ball over three times. Andrew Veith returned a Poolesville interception 40 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter.

Clarksburg's defense held the Falcons to 70 yards rushing.
