Track and FieldWOODLAWN -- The Thomas Johnson boys took a decisive win in the 4A North Region, outscoring runner-up Woodlawn, 178-102, and qualifying at least one performer in every event except one for the state meet.
The TJ girls also won the region, defeating Linganore.
TJ had seven winners: Marquis Woodyard (100 hurdles, 14.56; 300 hurdles 40.0); Momodou Brammeh (high jump, 6-0); Erik Artusio (pole vault, 15-0); Nick Forbes (discus, 159-11 1/2); 3,200 relay (Josh Chand, Sam Edland, Ben Ebert-Zavos, Justin Finutane, 8:28.1); and the 1,600 relay (Jordan Dorsey, Kevin King, Richard Newman, Woodyard, 3:24.5).
Other TJ qualifiers were: Newman (both hurdles); Brian McShea (800, 1,600); Forbes (shot put); Brian Uthe (shot put, discus); Andrew Cantor (3,200); Brock Chapman (triple jump); Charles Lord (pole vault); Dorsey (200) 800 relay (Nico Johnson, Shack McCullers, Rico Johnson, Dorsey); King (200, 400); 400 relay (N. Johnson, King, Chapman, Woodyard).
For the TJ girls, Emily Vannoy swept the shot put and discus. Cenarda Jackson swept the hurdles, qualified in the long jump and Stephanie Bryan won the 1,600 and qualified in the 3,200.
Other Patriots girls qualifiers include Kelsey Igo (400, pole vault), Annie Powell (1,600), Molly Adams (long and triple jumps), Megan Cahill (pole vault) and all four relay teams. Linganore qualifiers include Emma Mayne (shot put, discus), Valerie Blaemire (100, 200, triple jump), Lauren Quinn (200, 400), Heather Gula and Colleen Nolan (pole vault), Chowan Brightful (100, high jump), Bridget Nolan (800) and Linganore's 400 and 1,600 relay teams.
2A West
Knights girls win
WESTMINSTER -- Middletown's girls moved a step closer to winning their third straight state outdoor 2A championship, winning Saturday's regional meet at Winters Mill High School.
The Knights' girls defeated Clarksburg, 140.5-124.5, to win the regional title.
Middletown's boys finished second in the regional meet. The Knights scored 99 points.
Clarksburg won the meet (112) and Walkersville was third (65).
Sarah Wrieden was a double-winner for Midddletown's girls. She won the long jump (17-10 1/2) and triple jump (34-6).
Brittney Caudle won the 3,200 for Middletown (11:13.87), Allie Hemme won the pole vault (8-8) and Kathryn Papuchis won the 100 hurdles (16.11). She also qualified in the 300 hurdles.
Other state qualifiers for Middletown include Jenna Caudle (200, 400), Tara Shaffer (400), Brittney Caudle (800, 1,600), Middletown's 400 , 800, 1,600 and 3,200 relay teams, Melissa Shirley (shot put, discus).
Walkersville's Breana Brownfield qualified in the high jump.
Hunter Lumley won the 110 high hurdles (15.6). Lance Lagos, Rakim Hamilton, Corey Ledbedda and Rob Michels combined to win the 400 relay (3:27.7).
Other Knights' boys qualifiers include Tyler Johnson (discus), Corey Lamb (high jump), Austin Strine (110 high hurdles, 300 intermediate hurdles), Lumley (300 intermediate hurdles), Michels (400) and the Knights' 400 relay team.
Walkersville's Brandon Brownfield won the boys long jump (22-3). Jose Depadua qualified in the 100 and 200.
Other Lions' qualifiers include Josh Miller (800), Stephen Keith (1,600, 3,200), Nick Bowen (pole vault), Lucas Dayhoff (shot put), Walkersville's 400, 800 and 3,200 relay teams.
Class 1A West
CLEAR SPRING -- Brunswick's Sara Fisher won the girls 3,200 (11:33.05). She also qualified in the 1,600. Brunswick's Sophie Grizzle qualified in the high jump.
Catoctin's Cheyenne Ganley qualified in the girls 200. The Cougars also qualified in the 400 and 800 relay. Other Catoctin girls qualifiers include Hannah Stone (high jump).
On the boys' side, Catoctin's Deven Patterson and Nick Nowaczyk each won four events. Patterson won the 200 (22.69) and ran on the winning 400 (44.39), 800 (1:32.10) and 1,600 relay teams (3:28.41). Nick Nowaczyk won the long jump (21.7) and ran on the three winning relay teams.
Brad Maze was a double-winner for Catoctin, running on two winning relay teams. Other Catoctin qualifiers include Jake Fields (shot put).
Brunswick's Grant Smith was a double-winner. He won the boys shot put (52.2) and discus (141-2). Other Brunswick boys qualfiers include Chance Smith (100), Eric Hoffmaster (400), Jesse Mills (300 intermediate hurdles), Brunswick's 400 relay team, Nathan Diaz (pole vault). Tyrus Lawson (triple jump).

EMMITSBURG -- Mount St. Mary's rallied from a four-run deficit for the win, keeping its Northeast Conference playoffs hopes alive. The Mount finishes the regular season 23-25 overall and 15-11 in the Northeast Conference.--
