The opening of a new high school in Carroll County this year and the scheduled opening of one in Frederick County next fall has resulted in a realignment of the divisions of the Monocacy Valley Athletic League.Manchester Valley opens Monday in Carroll County and becomes part of an all-Carroll County Chesapeake Conference. Most Carroll County schools were part of old Blue Ridge Conference. The move, along with the eventual opening of Oakdale High School, puts most Frederick County schools in the Piedmont Conference. Brunswick and Catoctin, the two smallest schools in the county, join Washington County schools in the Antietam Conference, said Lynn Carr, supervisor of physical education for Frederick County. These are the basic alignments for the league, but there are variations for some sports, Carr said. There are four divisions for football. The Piedmont division is sub-divided into the Piedmont and Blue Ridge. Thomas Johnson, Frederick , Tuscarora, Linganore and Urbana , the larger schools in the county, make up the Piedmont division. Brunswick , Catoctin, Middletown and Walkersville are in the Blue Ridge division. The Chesapeake division is made up of all the Carroll County schools for football. The Antietam football division consists of all Washington County schools, with the exception of Clear Spring, which is playing an independent football schedule. In field hockey and lacrosse, there is a Frederick County and a Carroll County conference.
