Frederick receiver Jalen Gee emerged last year as an up-and-coming receiving threats. Friday night against North Hagerstown, the sophomore and the Cadets offense showcased a new wrinkle as Gee was lined up at quarterback, running back and wide receiver. With a thin corps of defensive backs, Gee nearly played both ways. Gee consistently found the end zone as he ran for three touchdowns and caught another, leading the Cadets to 47-19 win over the Hubs. "(Gee) already made his mark last season and in the offseason, D-I schools were already asking about him," Frederick coach Vince Ahearn said. "He has a promising career ahead of him and he just needs to continue to work and develop." Coming off a 24-point loss to cross-town rival Tuscarora a week ago, Ahearn stressed the importance of a big win at home. "Winning solves a lot of problems," Ahearn said. "I think all of us were questioning our confidence and after a tough week of practice this is what we needed." Gee scored in each of the first three quarters. He helped Frederick pad its lead with two touchdown runs in the second quarter and added a touchdown catch in the third. Gee scored from 4 yards out with 7:05 to play in the second quarter as the Cadets marched 85 yards in seven plays. The Cadets took a 34-13 lead into halftime as Gee found a hole in the right side of the line and scampered in from 19 yards out with 1:18 to play. "We've been flipping him in and out at quarterback, trying to develop him as a multi-purpose athlete," Ahearn said. "For a sophomore, there's a lot of mental stuff and he's coming along and doing a good job." The Cadets got out to a fast start, winning the battle for field position early as they scored twice on short fields. Quarterback Deon Walker rushed for a 5-yard touchdown and Gee scored from a yard out. Trailing 13-0, the Hubs offense finally got going late in the first quarter. Anthony Winter capped an eight-play, 50-yard drive as he scored on a 3-yard run eight seconds into the second period as Zach Leazier's extra point cut the lead to 13-7. Frederick extended its lead to 19-7 just 12 seconds after the Hubs scored. Andrew Hartman took the kickoff, cut upfield to his left and blew by the Hubs defense for an 80-yard touchdown. The play was a huge boost of momentum for the Cadets. "(The Hubs) went down and scored on a great drive and made it tighter, but our kids went right back out there and played," Ahearn said. Frederick used the ground game to wear out the Hubs as it racked up over 300 yards on the ground. Josh Tomlinson led a host of backs as he ran for 102 yards on 14 carries. Winter led the Hubs with 96 yards on 23 carries.
