In separate ceremonies over the next two days, Thomas Johnson's Nick Forbes and Linganore 's Zach Zwinak will be recognized for being selected to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, one the nation's premiere high school football all-star games.

As part of a selection tour for the game, Army representatives will be at both schools to present Forbes and Zwinak with their game jerseys.

They are two of 90 players in the country to be selected for the game, which takes place Jan. 9, 2010 at the Alamodome in San Antonio. It will be nationally televised by NBC. All of the related expenses will be paid for by the Army.

"That was one of my dreams as a middle-school player. I saw the game on TV one day and I was like, 'Man, I really want to play in that game,'" said Forbes, who will be honored at 1:45 p.m. today in the library at Thomas Johnson.

Zwinak, a Penn State recruit, has also set aside time each year to watch the game. He will be honored in the Linganore gymnasium at 8:15 a.m. Thursday.

"Just being considered on that level is a great honor," he said. "It will be fun playing alongside some of those guys."

Forbes and Zwinak both play running back and linebacker for their respective high schools. They are two of the three players from Maryland selected for the game. They will play for the East All-Stars against the West All-Stars.

"It's funny," said Forbes, who will soon be playing on the West Coast for the University of California. "I will be playing against some of the other (Cal) recruits. We were talking and I told them the East Coast would whup up on them."

Forbes and Zwinak were selected to the games based on their performance during the high school season and in summer camps related to the selection process.

Last season, they were named the Players of the Year by The Frederick -News Post. Forbes was recognized for his work on the defensive side of the ball, while Zwinak earned the offensive honors.

Linganore coach Rick Conner said being chosen for the team was the culmination of four years of "hard work and dedication."

He said, "It's not like (they) had only had a couple of good games."
