Soccer playoffs: Brunswick boys down Joppatowne

Boys

Class 1A North Quarterfinals

Brunswick 10, Joppatowne 0

Brunswick -- Drew Demich led Brunswick (6-6-2) with four goals on Tuesday. Nathan Esben and Sean Anderson each had two assists. Drew Howard picked up the shutout.

The Railroaders play in the regional semifinals later this week.

Class 3A West Quarterfinals

Clarksburg 1, Linganore 0

CLARKSBURG -- Jonathan Kukupa scored in the second half off assists from Julio Arjona and Fernand Feku. Austin Fiedler had four saves for Clarksburg.

Logan Pomeroy had seven saves for Linganore .

Northwood 5, Frederick 1

SILVER SPRING -- Samual Lian scored on an assist from Joseph Uk in the second half for Frederick (5-10). Hayden Chamberlain had 10 saves for the Cadets.

Class 2A West Quarterfinals

Liberty 2, Middletown 1

ELDERSBURG -- Liberty coverted a penalty kick three minutes into the second half, breaking a 1-1 tie and ending Middletown 's season at 10-4-3. Hayden Pond scored Middletown 's goal on an assist from Luke Welch.

Matt Kuhn had six saves for the Knights.

Girls

Class 3A West Quarterfinals

Tuscarora 5, Kennedy 0

Claire Kelly and Aaran Parry each had two goals for the Titans (11-3-1), who advance to the regional semifinals later this week. Sara Peron had one goal.

Parry had two assists. Kelly and Emily Marshall each had one assist. Sarah Jo Hayden earned her seventh shutout of the season with one save.

Class 4A North Quarterfinals

Urbana 4, Dulaney 0

Urbana -- The Hawks' Julie Ruh? had a hat trick in the first half. Claire Usiak had the fourth goal. Katie Parness had three assists and Jenny Marshall had one.

Keeper Beccca Himes recorded the shutout. Katie Marshall, Sarah Micol, Devon White and Angela LaBella all played well on defense for Urbana (13-2), which hosts the Kenwood-Patterson winner in Friday's semifinal contest.

TJ 2, Westminster 1

New Market -- Briahna McSweeney scored on an assist from Natalie Dold in overtime for Thomas Johnson.

The Patriots host Perry Hall in the regional semifinals Friday.

Becca Hemby scored on an assist from McSweeney in regulation. Abbie Niehoff had one save for TJ.

Class 1A North Quarterfinals

Patterson Mill 3, Brunswick 2

BEL AIR -- Lacey Martin and Kaitlyn Stepler each had a goal for Brunswick (4-9). Courntey Swaim had 10 saves for the Railroaders.
