Local roundup: Mount men picked to win NEC
Originally published November 05, 2009

From Staff Reports

For the second straight season, Mount St. Mary's has been chosen as the preseason favorite by Northeast Conference men's basketball coaches.

The preseason poll was announced Wednesday morning. The Mountaineers received nine first place votes. Long Island was second and defending NEC champion Robert Morris was third in the poll.

It's the fourth time the Mount has been tabbed as the preseason favorite.

"It just shows we have enough guys here that can compete," coach Milan Brown said Wednesday during a conference call with NEC coaches. "Hopefully, everything will turn out on a positive side for us."

After winning the NEC in 2008, the Mount finished 19-14 overall last season and reached the league championship game for the second consecutive time, falling on the road to Robert Morris in the final minute.

In addition to announcing the preseason poll, the NEC coaches also named their preseason all-conference team. Mountaineers senior point guard Jeremy Goode was one of five players named to the team.
