Local Roundup: Kessler helps Knights top Linganore

Girls Soccer

New Market -- Jacky Kessler scored both Middletown goals, including the match-winner in the second overtime, as the Knights edged Linganore 2-1 on Tuesday night.

McKenzie Noel and Tara Staley each had an assist for Middletown . Nikki Frushour had eight saves for the Knights (10-2).

Meghan Martin had Linganore 's goal, on an assist from Tiffany Burba. Edie Riggs had 10 saves for the Lancers (3-5-2).

The junior varsity match ended in a scoreless tie.

Walkersville 1, Frederick 0

Amy Bishop scored the lone goal of the match.

It came off a direct free kick from Jessica Tharpe in the first half. Jocelyn Martin recorded the shutout with eight saves.

Boys Soccer

Middletown 2, Linganore 1

Middletown -- Greg Norman scored the winning goal in overtime on an assist from Zach Fontenot with five minutes to go. Ryan Hohl scored Middletown 's goal in regulation on an assist from Ben Boring.

Ted Gula scored Linganore 's goal. Matt Kuhn had five saves for Middletown (8-3-2). Logan Pomeroy had three saves for Linganore .

Linganore won the junior varsity match, 3-1.

MACA 2, Granite 0

Avery Frink scored both goals for Mount Airy Christian Academy (9-2).

Field Hockey

Clarksburg 4, Seneca Valley 1

GERMANTOWN -- Katie Bertran had a hat trick for Clarksburg (5-5). Kaitlin Scalz had a goal with an assist for the Coyotes. Jak Hadrosek had two assists.

Melissa Bible had six saves for Clarksburg.

Volleyball

Linganore 3, Walkersville 0

Walkersville -- Scores: 25-18, 25-11, 25-18. Kass Greiss had seven service aces for Linganore (4-6); Jen Buckley had four aces with five digs and Adrienne Livioco had five digs.

For Walkersville , Jackie Burns had five aces; Samantha Layman had five kills; Caroline Kinna had six digs and Kelsey Wallace had seven.

Linganore also won the junior varsity match, 2-0.

St. John's-DC 3, MSD 0

Scores: 25-23, 25-23, 25-23. Brittany Frank had seven digs with five service aces for Maryland School for the Deaf; Tandy Lewis had eight digs and six kills; Michelle Mansfield-Horn had six kills with three blocks; Shaina Steingieser had three kills with three digs; Claire Tucker had five kills and five digs and Shayna-Rose Unger had three aces, 21 assists and six digs.

MSD won the junior varsity match, 2-0.

Cross Country

Vikings win six

St. John's-Catholic Prep's boys and girls teams picked up six of seven wins in an MIAA-IAAM multi-team meet. The Vikings boys defeated Baltimore Lutheran, Pallotti, Severn School and Beth Tfiloh; the SJCP girls defeated Pallotti and Oldfields.

Kieran Blakemore finished second overall for the SJCP boys and Ryan McDowell was third. There were 65 boys in the race. On the girls' side, Katherine Bruton was fourth to lead the Vikings in a 45-runner field.

Women's Soccer

CCBC 3, FCC 0

Rebecca Bowers had 16 saves for Frederick Community College.

College golf

Kingsbury fifth

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Mount St. Mary's Jeff Kingsbury finished fifth in the Holiday Inn-Pittsburgh Airport Colonial Classic, shooting a two-round 154, six shots off the pace. For the Mount women, Christina Koerper finished 10th.
