Four games into the season and we are already looking better than last year. With two wins under our belt we have a strong goal, of pushing through the season and not settling for less than we know we can achieve. Some of the most successful people in the world have had the most failures, but last season is behind us now and we practice and play with an amazing intensity ready to prove ourselves as a better team. Last year, we lost to Linganore and TJ but this year we came out on top. Thanks coach Lunn for telling us we should never say we can’t because we all can.
We know what hard work is. We have had practice in the pouring rain while other teams have canceled. And everyday at practice, we run lap after lap to build up our endurance. We may make mistakes but the mistake isn’t what matters, its what we do to fix it. We weren’t born varsity athletes, but we sure do get closer every step of the way.
With so much time spent on practice and homework we are exhausted by the end of the day. Even more so after games. It’s hard for us hockey players to believe it but we run about 3-6 miles in one game. Yet the thrill of the game is enough to keep us all sprinting to the ball.
Good job to Melanie Dice, Kiersten Bumgardner, Sydney Lunn, and Maddy Borek for scoring our goals of the season so far. Emily Valin you do great as our goalie every game. Sorry about the last few games. I know you don’t get much action with the ball on the other end of the field. We couldn’t do it without our defense of Tara Woodward, Lizzy Eckley, Holly Hoagland, Tori Bowie and Alaina Wheeler. And as always Ally Guiseppetti, Keyanah Key, Katherine Wares, Sandy Marin and Megan Balukoff are our forwards and mid field who help bring the ball up the field. They make scoring possible and hopefully will score goals this season, too.
There is no 'I' in team. Titan Field Hockey players are the best example of it. We don’t have any team drama that other teams may have. We each have a unique contribution to the team. Drama just gets in the way of working and bringing the ball up the field.
Field Hockey is our sport and we are not afraid to show it. What do we play for? We play for the ball slamming into the back of the cage. A perfect pass. The big save. One-on-ones with the goalies. The goal that makes the crowd go wild. And the goal that shuts them up. We play with everything we got. And we regret nothing.
