With a hard second half to the season, the Walkersville girls picked it up Monday night in their senior night game against Tuscarora.
The game started out with tears of laughter and sadness as the younger girls bid farewell to their elder friends and teammates and the seniors to their home turf. Warm-up was short and soon the game began with the air full of determination.
We came out strong and 17 minutes into the first half, junior Britton Muir pounded one into the net, no doubt for her graduating best friend, starting goalkeeper, Jocelyn Martin.
The intensity remained high, both teams playing very well, but an answering goal was scored by Tuscarora sending both teams into halftime at a tie. Continuing to play one of our best games this season, we worked hard and “put our hearts on the field” as coach Wetzel likes to say.
The game ended in a disappointing loss, 2-1 but we couldn’t have been prouder of the way we played the game.
Coach Wetz thought we played so hard that we knocked off the 105 push-ups we owed from the not-so-great game against TJ the night before.
Well, now it's break time for the girls at Walkersville soccer but this doesn’t mean that its all fun and games. Preparing hard for the upcoming playoffs, we practice every day and work to improve during our ten day break.
We came up with a list of things that the team as a whole feels we need to work on and we plan to finish this list by our first playoff game.
