Julie Rockwell: Cheerleading
A big half-time performance upcoming, a tradition resurrected
Originally published October 29, 2009

This week we have an away game at Catoctin. Our last away game.

The season has gone by so fast. It is hard to believe we only have two games left. Everyone is really excited for our last home game as it is against WHS and our Senior Night. We have 4 seniors this year: Calina Harris, Tedi Doering, Payton Sexton and Mercede Gastley (captain).

This weekend we are performing at the Navy Game during half-time. Everyone is really excited to go.

We are actually driving down to the game with Walkersville, our biggest rivals. But in the spirit of things we are excited to spend the day performing and socializing with all the other teams. We had to learn the dance that we are performing via Internet so it will be interesting to see what the whole performance to be like.

We started a new tradition this season. We have been painting run-throughs and the football players have seemed to be pumped up about the idea of crashing through the signs.

In years past, MHS cheerleaders did not make the signs because it was seen as bad luck (for some reason), but this year we resurrected the idea and the head football coach went for it!

I think the squad and the players have liked it.
