Terence Kerns: Making a run at the NFL
Ex-TJ star forgoes college eligibility in hopes of landing a spot in the NFL

On Thomas Johnson's track Wednesday, Terence Kerns demonstrated that burst of speed, the kind he uses to elude oncoming defenders.

Wearing a white tank top, Kerns' large, muscular frame cut through the twilight while his legs churned fast toward a man -- his godfather Wayne Yarborough -- armed with a green stopwatch.

Kerns ran three of these 40-yard dashes, and his handheld times, in order, were 4.56, 4.40 and 4.50.
