Wonder 1: basilica of st. elizabeth ann seton in emmitsburg. This wonder is unique, the resting place of the first american born saint, nestled in st. joseph's valley in a beautiful part of our county. The basilica is an internationally recognized symbol of the traditions, values, heritage and vision of frederick county.

Wonder 2: the grotto of lourdes at emmitsburg. the grotto is recognized worldwide as a holy place of pilgrimage for all faiths, a place for meditation and reflection, beautifully located on the mountain above Mt. St. Mary's University. A justifiably famous landmark in frederick.

Wonder 3: Shookstown road, as it transitions from the flat glacial plain and suddenly begins a steep climb to the mountains. The slope is remarkable, and makes the geography of the county suddenly very real.

Wonder 4: rt. 15 between frederick and the PA line. the views from this road are truly breathtaking. The spread of the valley, the drama of the mountains, the homes, farms, cloud formations, weather effects, all vary day-by-day, all different, all memorable, all typical frederick county.

Wonder 5: market street on first saturday. here is a vibrant community, out and about, enjoying the charm and liveliness of the town center, thankful that in Frederick there still is a focal point, a "there" that is indeed frederick, our town!
