Wonder 1: Laboring Sons Burial Ground- off Chapel Alley and 6th Street. THE REASON THIS IS NUMBER ONE MY LIST, WITH ALL THE SIGNIFICANCE IT HOLDS TO FREDERICK HISTORY, I AM STILL PONDERING ON WHY IT NOT EVEN LISTED ON THE MAP OF THE FREDERICK VISTORS GUIDE FOR VISITORS AND NEW RESIDENTS. The cemetery was established in 1851 for free black slaves. Sometime around the 1940’s the city added a playground and made it a "whites only" playground. There are approximately 1500 people are buried there including 6 black Civil War soldiers. They only have names listed for a few over 100 interred there and THE CIVIL WAR SOLDIERS ARE NOT EVEN MENTIONED. Definitely #1 WONDER!!!

Wonder 2: The Professional Building at 228 N. Market St, complete with small sculptures of two little girls faces on the front of the building as well as the Evangelical Lutheran Sunday School. Both of these buildings were designed by a German architect, John Augustus Dempwolf sometime in the later half of the 1800’s. He designed many beautiful buildings throughout York, PA and the surrounding areas. Be sure to ‘Google’ him to see many of his other fine works.

Wonder 3: The Frederick Fountain on 7th and Market Streets. I always wonder when it was placed there and why. It is so beautiful yet seems to be so out of place. And I have never found any historical information on it. I love the wildly growing Lavender and am glad to see this little piece of magic every time I travel northbound on Market Street.

Wonder 4: The VOLUNTEERS that run Rose Hill Manor, The Frederick Visitors Center, and Select Seconds Thrift Shop. These women and men are the backbone to what Frederick is all about. They are always welcoming and willing to help everyone.

Wonder 5: Uncle Ralph’s Almost Famous Cookies, personal favorite are ‘chocolate chip and walnut’. Wish they would open one Saturday morning a month. Homemade ice cream downtown from Market Street Café, personal favorite ‘spiced chai tea’. If in Frederick County, South Mountain Creamery, too yum!

Wonder 6: Gambrill State Park- Nice place for close by camping and hiking. While on the trails you may encounter people on mountain bikes and horses. It has three different stone overlooks located on the 1,600-foot summit of High Knob. They have especially beautiful views of Frederick County right before sunset. Then there is the’ Tea Room’ which is very classic, as well as fantasy filled. Built during the depression, and it is still a main attraction at Gambrill today. Lastly, I have to mention the Tibetan Meditation Center which is right next to some trails. They are such a peace minded people. They even have a small garden with a ‘cave’ and a great little bookstore as well.

Wonder 7: ‘If the Shoe Fits’ on the Golden Mile section of Patrick Street- Only place that I have been to that video tapes what your feet actually look like from ankle level. This is the best place I have ever been to for getting the most correct sneakers/shoes. All the staff are very knowledgeable but not intimidating for us non-runners. They even have a drop off box for old running shoes that they give to the Frederick Rescue Mission, homeless people need shoes too!
