Monday is Veterans Day. Originally known as Armistice Day, it is observed on Nov. 11 to honor military veterans and marks the end of World War I. Major hostilities ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. It was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.
Below is a look at what is open and closed on Monday.
Frederick County Public Schools and offices are open.
City of FrederickCity of Frederick offices will be closed Monday. Parking will be free at all city garages and meters. Trash/recycling/yard waste collection service will change as follows:
There will be no residential trash collection service on Monday. If you normally set your household trash out for Monday collection, please set your trash out on Monday evening for Tuesday collection. All other residential trash routes are as normally scheduled.
For commercial businesses, trash will be collected as normally scheduled.

Commercial recycling will not be collected on Monday. It will return to the normal schedule on Wednesday.
Frederick County governmentFrederick County government administrative offices will be closed on Monday.
Additionally, the Animal Control Center will be closed, as will the landfill and Reichs Ford Road Recycling Center. Recycling for the week will shift one day later for the rest of the week. All Frederick County Public Libraries will also be closed.
The TransIT office will be closed with the following service changes and cancellations in effect:
Peak-hour Connector bus service will not operate. All other Connector and Shuttle buses will operate on regular schedules.
TransIT-plus (demand response) service will not operate.
MARC train will operate on a Holiday “R” schedule; therefore, the Meet-theMARC shuttle service will meet morning train 878 in Point of Rocks. The Walkersville Meet-the-MARC trip scheduled to arrive at the Transit Center at 4:55 a.m. will not operate. In the evening we will meet 875 and 881.
MTA 204, 505 and 515 commuter bus service will not operate.
