Reality TV has made its way to Frederick -- and now Yvette Shirey, owner of the Golden Orchid Spa & Shop, is full of secrets.
After the spa on Everedy Square on East Street had closed Monday night, an ABC crew came in to tape a segment for a reality TV show.
"It was the reality TV ambush approach -- come into town, do what they need to do, and get out quickly," Shirey said Tuesday.
The Golden Orchid will be a small part of one episode of a series scheduled to begin airing in August.
But what's the show?
"I cannot say," Shirey said.
She signed a two-page contract limiting what she can tell people.
ABC will stay in touch and by September, Shirey said, she should be able to share more details.
The spa will be featured in a later episode of the series, she said.
Shirey first heard of ABC's interest last Friday when the network called her. They had found Golden Orchid Spa online, she said.
At 11 p.m. Friday, ABC called a second time and confirmed that the Golden Orchid had been chosen for the show.
During the day and at sunset Monday, ABC shot footage in Frederick, based on Shirey's recommendations. The evening taping at the spa included Shirey and four Golden Orchid employees.
The camera crew was great to work with and made the experience pleasant, Shirey said.
"I think it's a good opportunity for Frederick to be highlighted on national television."
The show will also features another local business, but like the name of the series and what it's about, the name of that business is a secret. Shirey could not even say whether it's in Frederick city or Frederick County.
Calls to the ABC affiliate in Washington and network headquarters in New York were not returned Tuesday.
