LARGO -- The Penguin's Blizzard River made its celebrated debut at Maryland's only theme park last weekend as Six Flags America opened for the season.
The Penguin's Blizzard River, the tallest spinning rapids ride in the world and the first to feature the popular Batman theme is based on the legendary DC Comics Super Hero's arch-nemesis, The Penguin and offers a cool thrill experience for guests who dare to ride. A family adventure, the new ride represents the continued expansion and enhancement of the total entertainment product at Six Flags America.
Based on The Penguin, Batman's diabolical yet debonair arch nemesis, the ride is as maniacal as the sinister Penguin himself. An oddly shaped, unlikely super villain, The Penguin has made Batman's life difficult in Gotham City from the very beginning. Now he is ready to wreak havoc on the guests of Six Flags America as he attempts to alter the weather conditions with an arctic blast sent to freeze the river of the park's newest water-thrill ride.
The two-minute-41-second chilling journey on The Penguin's Blizzard River begins when passengers board a six-person raft that whisks them more than 60 feet in the air to the top of The Penguin's lair. The raft is then sent careening down an icy water-filled flume of twists and turns (two thunderous mega twists and a triple dipped drop to be exact), under the Mayhem Misters (water atomizers) and back to "sea level" while the raft itself continuously spins.
The Penguin's Blizzard River is highlighted by a variety of unsuspecting water elements aimed to surprise yet refresh rafters along the way. The journey through the lair culminates in a giant splashdown into Chiller Bay, a catch pool of swirling white water -- just moments after the raft has passed under Spray Ray Crossing, a bridge of water cannons devised by The Penguin to soak trespassers that enter his lair. In his next diabolical move, the evil mastermind sends the raft straight toward the Fog Bog, a thick wall of mist and fog, leaving passengers guessing what lurks on the other side.
The potential to get soaked doesn't stop there, continuing until the final moments on the ride. As riders approach the final leg of their journey, they can still be the target of one of The Penguin's ferocious pets - a series of six giant penguins that linger on the perimeter walls of Chiller Bay - spouting bursts of cool H2O on raft riders passing below.
The Penguin's Blizzard River is located in the Gotham City themed area of Six Flags America amidst other DC Comics branded attractions including The Joker's Jinx, Superman -- Ride of Steel and The Batman Thrill Spectacular Stunt Show.
Maryland's only theme park, Six Flags features more than 100 rides, shows and attractions.
