Celebrate and discover Italian cultural heritage at Festa Italiana on May 30. The full-day event is a family festival and fundraiser to benefit Habitat for Humanity of Frederick County.
Historic Rose Hill Manor Park will be transformed into a charming Italian village with authentic, homemade Italian food and dessert, a wine and beer garden, a wood-fired pizza oven, and a gelato and espresso truck. Gluten free options will be available.
The Sicilian Tenors — once described by the late Joan Rivers as “The Three Tenors meets the Rat Pack” — will headline the event at 6 p.m. Other acts are The Monaldi Brothers and D.C.’s Italian pop-rock band i-Talians the Band, plus DJ Kelly Monaldi, Italian Karaoke and accordion players Joan Grauman and Pat Racioppa.
There will also be cooking demos; a screening of the PBS documentary “The Italian American”; and a presentation from Italian Garden Project founder Mary Menniti, who has collaborated with the Smithsonian Institute’s Archives of American Gardens to document a traditional Italian American vegetable garden.
Shoppers can stroll through an Italian market, and the whole family can check out bocce balls, grape stomping, dancing and a sauce taste-off. A children’s area will have activities throughout the day, including soccer, making gnocchi and planting an Italian garden.
And the raffle is worth mentioning: The big prize is a one-week vacation for two in Italy. Tickets are available online and will be available at Festa Italiana until 6:15 p.m. The drawing will be at 6:45 p.m.
Festa Italiana is a rain or shine event and runs from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Advance admission is $7, free for children age 5 and under. Family discount available online and at the gate. At the gate, tickets are $12 for adults. To learn more, visit www.festaitalianafrederick.com.
