Comparing the practice of slavery to a song is ridiculous. Spirituals are reminders of the age of slavery also but are we abolishing them? He who forgets history is bound to repeat it. I’ll bet those voting to abolish Maryland My Maryland have never sung it and I can vouch that those who have sung it pay no attention to the words, just the tune. Surely there is a poet laureate in our fair state that can modify the lyrics.
