Commissioner David Gray says he will run to become Frederick County's first executive in 2014 if Commissioners President Blaine Young decides to enter the race.
Gray's readiness to join the contest stems from his frustration with Young's leadership style on the county board.
"I'm certainly not going to stand by and let Blaine Young become executive without a challenge," Gray said today in a phone interview. "I can't stand another four years of him controlling things. Period. He's dangerous to the county, in my opinion."
Young is exploring a bid for Maryland governor in 2014, but has said he'd be open to competing for county executive. Gray said he's not sure whether he'd still join the county race if Young decides not to make a play for executive.
Gray, a Republican, has served more than 18 years as a Frederick County commissioner.
