The annual Frederick County Marching Band Festival was held Monday evening at Frederick High School to showcase the talent of student musicians. All 10 of the county’s marching bands performed at the showcase, each receiving 15 minutes to present the band’s 2019 field show before a crowd.
Although the festival is not a competition, schools were critiqued by judges from Maryland and Pennsylvania. Each judge provides the band with written feedback in the areas of music, visual presentation and other areas, but no ranks or scores are assigned. The event serves as an opportunity for the bands to see one another in action in one location.
The hosting Frederick High School was organized in 1913 and has not hosted the event in over 15 years. The festival comes as school fall sports seasons come to a close.
The evening concluded with a presentation by the Shepherd University Marching “Ram” band from West Virginia.
