More About Monocacy Valley Church -- A Congregation of the Reformed Church in America

Welcome to Monocacy Valley Church!  We're glad you found us at the Frederick News Post.  We are located across from Oakdale Middle School on Old National Pike (MD 144).  We invite you to worship with us on Sundays at 9:30 am.  Come and check us out.  We are focused on our vision and trust that you will become a part of it as we grow.

We're a congregation of the Reformed Church in America (RCA).  The RCA is the oldest Protestant denomination in North America with a continuous ministry.  Our ancestors came with the first Dutch settlers who lived in what is now New York and New Jersey.  Visionaries in the RCA planted our church in the Frederick area in 1991.  We are the only RCA congregation in Maryland!

We are a confessional church, which means that we express our faith through the Bible and creeds and confessions written by believers in Europe several hundred years ago and by church leaders of the late 20th Century with capture the freedom found in Christ:  The Apostles Creed, the Nicene Creed, the Athanasian Creed, the Heidelberg Catechism, The Belgic Confession, the Canons of Dort, and the Belhar Confession.

Mission is in our DNA.  Our focus will always be beyond the walls of our church.  We serve our community and the world.  "Serving like Jesus" means being humble servants, recognizing people's needs and acting on them.  We have a large gymnasium and various rooms that are available on a recurring basis or for a one-time event.  We provide food for the Frederick Food Bank and host a Cancer Support Group.  Recovery for a Lifetime meets every Tuesday night.

Our worship style is contemporary and informal.  Dress as you'd like and worship through responsive readings, contemporary worship songs, an occasional traditional hymn and a Bibically-based message, which is the heart of Reformed worship.  We celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion on the first Sunday of the month.  We practice "open" Communion:  All believers, regardless of denominational affiliation, are invited to share the Lord's Supper with us.

We are rebuilding!   As we begin the journey with our new pastor, Rev. Isaiah Nengean,  we are excited about rebuilding all parts of our ministry and are excited about being led where God wants us to go.  We have  nursery during worship and are actively rebuilding our children's ministry.
