Libertytown Carnival

Carnival season in Frederick and neighboring Washington and Carroll counties is underway. It’s a summer tradition filled with family fun, food and live entertainment featuring local bands, from country to classic rock.

The season kicks off May 21 with the Mother Seton School carnival in Emmitsburg, followed by The Great Boonsboro Rescue Co. carnival opening May 25 at Shafer Park in Boonsboro. Carnival season runs through August with the Libertytown and Rocky Ridge volunteer fire companies wrapping it up, respectively, in August.

Most carnivals have midway rides, some have parades, all have food and games. Carnivals give communities the opportunity to support their local fire company and service organizations. They are also a good place to catch up with neighbors and friends who make the carnival circuit part of their summer.

Area county fairs begin in July with the Washington County Ag Expo and Fair and the Carroll County 4-H & FFA Fair, with the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair and Maryland State Fair, both in August, and ending with The Great Frederick Fair in September.
