Jayden

Do you know how hard it is to write pop music? Better yet, do you know how hard it is to write good pop music?

Jayden Valentine does, even if he’s only 16 years old and currently attends Frederick High School. With “Everything,” a single he released in November (complete with a music video you can find on YouTube), Valentine steps to the plate with an unapologetically auto-tuned voice and an R&B-leaning groove that combines for a track beyond the years of its author.

Actually, what it does best is harken back to the glory days of mid-‘90s radio rhythm and blues, acquiescing to a laid-back formula that will forever work, making it somewhat novel in its intentions — especially considering those intentions come from someone still worried about a GPA. Armed with dulcet vocals and a hook that promises residence in your musical consciousness, it’s a hell of an effort from a singer whose most valuable attribute is singing about what he knows best: young love.

Now, just imagine what he might offer after he comes across that other teen staple: young heartbreak. The guess here is that it’ll be irresistible.
