Sure, the quartet has gone through its share of lineup changes through the years, but as long as its got singer Ariana Harbin at the helm, there are a few things you can always expect from any Sweet Something song: a deliciously sultry groove, laid-back vibe-centric keys and, of course, Harbin’s tremendously affecting signature vocals.

That in mind, it should come as no surprise (pun intended) that “No Surprises Here” keeps that formula alive, albeit with just a little more chill than the group has expressed in the past. It’s almost Erykah Badu-like with its neo-soul textures and pop-swing R&B influences, a sound nearly impossible to perfect and beyond admirable to acquire.

Yet even if this song isn’t flawless, it does come close, what with its staccato pauses and Quiet Storm ethos adding up to something ever so sweet.
