Percussion Day

Frederick Community College faculty Anita Thomas, bass; Jordan Clawson, piano; and Greg Herron, drums, perform with internationally renowned jazz vibraphonist Chick Redd, at the 2020 FCC Percussion Day held on Feb. 29.

Since 2006, Frederick Community College has held Percussion Day to bring together internationally-renowned musicians and local high school and community percussion groups. Master percussionists of all styles, including jazz, classical, contemporary and world music, have presented clinics during the event.

Chick Redd, internationally renowned jazz vibraphonist, was the guest at the 2020 event, held Feb. 29.

Percussion Day also offers local talent the opportunity to showcase their skills. Groups including Frederick Town Fife and Drum, Linganore High School Percussion Ensemble, Urbana High School Drum Line and Front Ensemble, and Oakdale High School Percussion Ensemble have performed at the event.

Each year, the event is free and open to the public. Greg Herron, FCC percussion instructor, created this event 15 years ago and continues it with the support of the FCC Communications, Humanities and Arts Department.
