South Carroll High School student Erin Zirkle served as the Senior Senator representing Maryland at the American Legion Auxiliary Girls Nation in Washington, D.C., in July. Erin was selected by the citizens at Girls State held at Salisbury University in June. ALA Girls Nation is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for young women and is the premier program of the American Legion Auxiliary that provides firsthand experience for high school juniors to gain practical insight into how the federal government works. Erin is sponsored by the Damascus American Legion Auxiliary Post 171.
Rilee March, of Myersville, earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology this spring from SUNY Cortland, in New York.
The following area student-athletes were named Academic All-ODAC, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, at Shenandoah University, in Winchester, Virginia: Ryan Hayden, Scott Wilson and Fontaine Weedon, of Frederick; William Shadle, of Thurmont; Matthew Walker, of Jefferson; Benjamin Burgan, of Boonsboro; Dominic Gulli, of Monrovia; Zackary Mathis, of Walkersville; Prince-Binwi Bihai, of Point of Rocks; Aarom Coombs, Justin Lund, Gabrielle Krystofiak and Zoe Star, of New Market; Ryan Ryenolds, of Keedysville; Olivia Weinel and Paige Colvin, of Mount Airy; Ashleigh Zepp, of Union Bridge; and Erin Chizmadia and Kathleen Vendemia, of Woodbine.
Hood College President Andrea E. Chapdelaine, Ph.D., has been named to the American Association of Colleges and Universities board of directors following the association’s annual meeting. Chapdelaine is one of 13 members that will serveon the national board in 2022.
Four area students were the recipients of the annual Dunkin’ Regional Scholarship Program, which awarded $100,000 in scholarships to local students throughout Maryland, Virginia and D.C. Receiving scholarships were Andrew Wang, from Frederick and a graduate of Urbana High School, is attending Pepperdine University; Inez Ortiz, of Buckeystown, a graduate of St. John’s Catholic Prep and attending University of Maryland — College Park; Kara Graves, of Annapolis and a Brunswick High School graduate attending Messiah University; and Walkersville High School graduate Emma Shafer, who is attending University of Maryland — College Park.
In May, Taylor Beckley, of Thurmont, graduated summa cum laude with a degree in early childhood (Pre-K to 4) from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania.
The following area students graduated in the spring from Park University: Christopher Duncan, bachelor’s in management, a resident of Beavercreek, Ohio, and a graduate of Middletown (Md.) High School; and John Smith, bachelor’s in social psychology, of Frederick.
Arpan Barua, of Boyds; and Chau An Tran, of Frederick, made the dean’s list for the spring semester at Tufts University, in Medford, Massachusetts.
Destiny Amaya Marie Dixon, of Frederick, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications, graduating cum laude in May from Robert Morris University, Moon Township, Pennsylvania.
Daniel Callahan, of Frederick, graduated from the Florham Campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University, in Madison, New Jersey.
Sarah Lamarre, of Frederick, was named to the honors list for the spring semester at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Florham Campus.
The following area students earned dean’s list honors for the spring semester at Emerson College, in Boston: Sophie Beersarthur, of Frederick; Amya Diggs, of Walkersville; and Samuel Hull, of Boyds.
Andrew Radzikevich, of Ijamsville, a student at the Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University, in Waco, Texas, made the dean’s academic honor list for the spring semester.
Samantha Kellogg, of Poolesville, was among the student-athletes at Alabama University, in Tuscaloosa, earned a place on the Southeastern Conference spring academic honor roll. Kellogg is a member of the rowing team.
Nadia Baskot, of Damascus, has been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Lock Haven University, in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania.
