John and Roxie Underwood

John and Roxie Underwood, Jackson, Ohio celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a July family vacation to Norway and Scotland. The highlight of the 13 person, three generation group was a visit to the ancestral home of John’s material grandparents in the Mosby area north of Kristiansand, Norway. They also enjoyed other areas of Norway plus Edinburgh, St. Andrews and Glasgow in Scotland. 

The Underwood’s were married September 10, 1955 in Calvary Methodist Episcopal Church, Frederick, MD. They met while John was employed in agronomic research at Fort Detrick and Roxie was teaching Home Economics (now Family & Consumer Science) at Middletown High School. 

For the past 46 years, they have resided in Jackson, OH but return to the Frederick County area many times each year to visit relatives and friends. John retired in 1992 as a Professor and Extension Agronomy Specialist from The Ohio State University. 

Enjoying the two week trip with John and Roxie were their daughters: Ann Underwood, Upper Arlington, OH; Dr. Marilyn Underwood and children Klara and Isaak, Davis, CA; Daphne and husband Boyd Moehring and daughters Hallie and Mallory, Gahanna, OH and Joan and husband Dr. Maurice Mast and son Lance, Upper Arlington, OH.
