Lazarus ‘cousins’ reunionThe family of Celia and Alexander Lazarus will hold a Cousins Reunion on Sept. 22 at The Lodge at Homewood. About 20 or more cousins from Maryland, Virginia, New York, and Connecticut are expected to attend. Alexander Lazarus emigrated to the United States from what is now Poland in the late 1800s. He migrated to Belington, West Virginia, and opened a general store there. He and his wife, Celia, also an immigrant, had seven children, five boys and two girls. After Alexander’s death, his wife, his daughters and three sons moved to Baltimore. Two sons went to Wheeling, West Virginia. Several sons followed their father and became merchants, one son became a dentist, and the daughters also went into sales. There were 12 grandchildren, two of which will attend the reunion, and 22 great-grandchildren. One grandson visited the place where Alexander was born, and found a record of his birth. The cousins will share memories of their parents and grandparents. Carolyn Lazarus Buck and Alice Lazarus Haber are hosting the reunion.
