The Rotary Club of Frederick has awarded grants totaling $40,000 to seven local nonprofit organizations through their 2019 Service Partnership Grant application process. These grant funds were raised through the club’s annual signature fundraiser, the Leprechaun Luau®.

From a pool of 26 applicants from the local nonprofit community, the Rotary Club of Frederick’s Service Partnership Committee selected seven service organizations that have a mission that is aligned with one of Rotary International’s six service initiatives: basic education and literacy, water and sanitation, economic and community development, peace and conflict prevention/resolution, maternal and child health, and health, wellness and disease prevention. The committee’s recommendations were ratified by the club’s board of directors, and the awards were presented to the grant recipients at the club’s weekly meeting on Jan. 16.

The following local organizations received grants in the following amounts for the 2018-2019 Rotary year: Spanish Speaking Community of MD Inc., $3,500; Heartly House Inc., $10,000; Frederick Rescue Mission/Faith House, $5,000; Student Homelessness Initiative Partnership of Frederick County Inc., $8,000; Mission of Mercy Inc., $1,000; Children of Incarcerated Parents Partnership Inc., $7,500; and Centro Hispano de Frederick Inc., $5,000.

“The Rotary Club of Frederick is so pleased to be able to carry out our motto of ‘service above self’ through these fantastic nonprofit organizations,” said Pat Hanberry, chair of the service partnership grant committee. “We had many more requests than we were able to fund, all of them for very worthy projects. Over the next year, we are looking forward to hearing from these nonprofits about how they are spending their project funds in furtherance of their missions.”

The eighth annual Leprechaun Luau® will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. March 2 at the Frederick Community College Field House. Buy tickets at www.theleprechaunluau.com. All proceeds benefit the Rotary Club of Frederick’s Service Partnership Grant recipients.
