During the Thurmont Lions Club Education Night ceremony on May 10, five scholarships were awarded to Catoctin High School seniors. These scholarships are awarded competitively based on academic achievement, participation activities and financial need. These students not only achieved outstanding academic honors, but also spent many hours performing volunteer work, along with participating in a wide variety of activities.

Three $1,000 scholarships were awarded to Catoctin High seniors: Alex Mayhew, who plans to attend the University of Maryland; Rebecca Thomson, who plans to attend Shenandoah University; and Cecelia Bosche, who plans to attend Towson University.

Hannah Barth, recipient of the Vic Jagow Scholarship, was awarded there third year of a four-year scholarship. She attends Lebanon University. Jack McCarthy was the recipient of the first Larry Mundy Sr. memorial scholarship, a dedicated 12-year Lions member. McCarthy received the $1,000 scholarship and will attend the University of Dayton in the fall.

These scholarships are made possible from the community birthday calendar fundraiser that has been granting these scholarships for over 45 years. These deserving seniors and the Thurmont Lions thank supporters for their generosity.
