WWI Support presentation to City of Frederick
Francis Scott Key Post 11, The American Legion, was Chartered on July 19, 1919. During the research for the “100-Year History of Post 11,” an American Legion National Citation of Appreciation for the City of Frederick Support of the WW I War Effort was found and it was discovered that it had never been awarded. The 1922 original document was restored, reframed and was presented to the City during the Post 11 centennial program to be hung in its rightful place in City Hall. Pictured left to right during the presentation are, front row, Alderman Kelly Russell, Mayor Pro Tem, receiving it for the City, and Centennial Commander David Swiderski, 101st Commander of Post 11. In the back row: MC William A. Kennedy Jr., 67th Post Commander, 1985-86, and “100 Year Post History” chair Richard L. “Rick” Stup, 63rd Post Commander, 1981-82.
