FILE - Federal investigators have closed the case on this country’s first major act of bioterrorism, sealing their findings that Bruce Ivins, a former Frederick resident and Fort Detrick scientist, acted alone in the 2001 anthrax letter attacks that killed five people and sickened 17 others in the weeks after Sept. 11. 2/20/10

Yes, Ivins committed suicide for sure. Alas, he was driven to it by schizoaffective disorder and an investigation that was out of control. The Task Force never had any evidence that:

1) Ivins was in Princeton in September or October of 2001.

2) Ivins did drying/purifying of anthrax in the August to October period of 2001.

3) Ivins had spores in his vehicle and/or residence.

4) Ivins xeroxed the texts of Amerithrax.

(And so they relied on psychologically 'breaking' Ivins to give them the evidence that they lacked; he 'broke' but maintained until his dying breath that he was innocent).

The Task Force/DoJ buried a report from their own questioned document examiners that said that Ivins "probably" did not write the Amerithrax texts. This recently came to light when the documentation showed up in a document dump by the DoJ. The DoJ also mischaracterized the availability (to Ivins et alia) of a lyophilizer at USAMRIID and only admitted the substance of that mischaracterization when forced to by a lawsuit initiated by Bob Stevens' widow.

Ivins was as innocent of Amerithrax as Steve Hatfill was. And eventually this will be plain as day.

The comment from "Anthrax Bologna" shows total ignorance of the MOUNTAIN OF EVIDENCE against Bruce Ivins.

There are NO "colleagues and other scientists" who have proved ANYTHING about Ivins' innocence. All they've done is state their false beliefs while ignoring the facts. They falsely argue that Ivins couldn't have done it because the attack spores were weaponized. The spores were NOT weaponized. They falsely argue that Ivins couldn't have done it because it would have been a violation of the rules against making lethal anthrax powders at USAMRIID. Ivins DIDN'T FOLLOW the rules when he made the powders.

And the suggestion that Ivins was MURDERED is just plain silly. Bruce Ivins attempted suicide on March 19, 2008, but failed. His second attempt in July was successful. It was his only way to escape facing a jury of his peers and being found guilty of the murder of 5 innocent people.

The comment by Anthrax Bologna is the stupidest thing I have ever read on the internet. FBI = keystone cops? I guess there is a little sense there as it supposedly took them 7 years to take out the patsy, huh?

Anthrax Bologna

OMG I cannot believe what the Fredrick Post has done today. They have let the FBI and other agencies buffoon the family of Bruce Ivins and the People of The United States. What ab out the colleagues and other scientist who have proven beyond and doubt that Bruce Ivins was innocent!!! There is NO evidence that Bruce Ivins committed this act, however, there is the same evidence that "someone could have given Bruce Ivins" that deadly dose of "Tylenol", this case has smelled like $hit from the very beginning and not all evidence has been presented to the public. These keystone cops have spent tax payer's money on a case they cannot solve, they have used the public in a re-write of American History the way they want, every single person in the Anthrax Investigation must be stripped of all authority and jailed for taking a life of an Honorable Citizen i.e. Bruce Ivins.
