Jerry Donald is a candidate for Frederick County Council District 1. The primary election is June 26.
Why are you running for office?
To continue to move Frederick County forward. Over the past four years we have added over 100 firefighters, deputies and emergency services personnel. We’ve built school schools, parks, saved Citizens and Montevue, and improved our bond rating all while keeping the property tax rate exactly where we found it.
What's the biggest issue facing District 1?
How would you address it? Saving our farmland and having enough parks for our residents. I have constantly voted to preserve farmland through our various programs and have been a big advocate for building our parks as fast as possible.
What changes, if any, would you propose if elected?
We need to improve and expand our bike and trail system, continue to support our schools so that the best and brightest teachers want to come here and stay here and find a long term solution to our solid waste issue.
What is one thing you would do differently from other challengers?
I know District One extremely well. I have been a tireless advocate for the municipalities in it, as well as for the rural residents who live there. I have had over 50 town halls where I meet with residents and address their concerns.
How do you plan on working with people with views different from your own?
I have worked on property tax legislation with Kirby Delauter. I will work with any council member who has an issue we can work together on. Nobody has a monopoly on good ideas.
