Frederick Count Animal Control is investigating an apparent dog attack that left 12 chickens dead on a local farm.
Animal Control officers went to England Acres, 5620 Detrick Road near Mount Airy, on April 3 after receiving a report of livestock killed, director Harold Domer said.
While an investigation continues, the owner of a husky has offered to pay the farm restitution, Domer said. There is no specific proof that the dog killed the chickens because no one has said they witnessed the attack, he said.
Even if the dog is the same as one reported running loose in the area that day, that does not necessarily mean it is related to the chicken slaughter, Domer said.
The April 3 attack was reported in the same area where Animal Control searched in April 2013 for two big red dogs that killed a number of animals. In that case, one of the dogs was caught and the other was killed. More than 20 animals were injured during those attacks.
Domer encouraged all landowners to report any suspected attack on livestock to Animal Control.
