The Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue Services responded to a barn fire Wednesday night in the 6300 block of Old Middletown Road in Middletown.

Fire department units were sent to the farm shortly before 10 p.m. after emergency communications received a call from a house on Braddock Mountain, according to Frederick County Battalion Chief Rusty Hahn.

Units from Washington County and Loudoun County, Virginia, were called to assist, Hahn said.

The fire destroyed more than 80 percent of the 40-foot-by-60-foot barn. Firefighters contained the fire as it spread to a nearby shed and a smaller barn. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes and units left the scene around 1 a.m., according to Hahn.

No animals or equipment were in the barn at the time of the fire. The smaller barn contained a tractor and small amounts of hay.

Fire officials did not release the name of the owner of the barn. The Frederick County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the blaze, Hahn said.
