A Frederick man who was arrested Sunday on assault charges was denied bail by a District Court judge at a court appearance Monday afternoon.

Marcel A. Williams, 29, was taken into custody shortly after 10:15 p.m. Sunday when city police responded to his apartment in the 1200 block of Little Brook Drive after a text to 911 indicated that a domestic assault was taking place. A woman who appeared to be suffering several injuries was also present and told police that Williams had assaulted her shortly after arriving at the apartment drunk, according to charging documents filed in Frederick County District Court.

The woman also mentioned that police had responded to the apartment at 2:05 a.m. that day, and she said she had not been completely forthcoming with officers, saying she had not mentioned that Williams had choked her and punched her several times in that incident, according to the documents.

Williams was charged with first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault. He was denied bail in a hearing Monday afternoon before Judge Earl W. Bartgis Jr., court records indicate.
