A man who state police say is a member of a Maryland prison gang was arrested in possession of a firearm in Thurmont on Tuesday, according to a state police press release.

Richard John Haslup, 31, was taken into custody Tuesday morning after troopers served a search and seizure warrant on his home in the 13200 block of Catoctin Furnace Road as part of an investigation into an alleged violation of his probation for a previous offense, the release states. During a search of the home, several firearms were seized, according to the release.

Haslup, who state police identified as a member of the Dead Man Incorporated prison gang, is prohibited from owning firearms due to prior felony convictions, the release said.

Haslup was transported back to Carroll County, where the warrant for his arrest was issued after he allegedly violated the terms of his probation for a conviction for driving on a revoked license in May of 2019. Haslup had been released after serving part of a two-year sentence in that case, but a warrant for his arrest was issued March 25, according to an online search of court records.

Tuesday’s release indicated Haslup could also face firearms offenses in Frederick County as a result of the search warrant, but no additional charges were filed as of Wednesday afternoon.

Haslup was authorized to be released from a detention facility in Carroll County after being granted a $10,000 unsecured personal bail in a hearing in Carroll County District Court Wednesday morning, court records state.

I'm a 40 year old white man and I was arrested when I was 18 for stealing a horse saddle and breaking up some property and having less than a gram of marijuana on my person, which was my first and only charges. They set my bail at $85,000! I successfully completed 60 days in the county jail, had 2 years of supervised probation, 250 hours of community service, and paid $2,000 in restitution. I read stories like this and am shocked...

No excuse for an able bodied white male in the greatest economy ever sitting in a cell unless he’s genetically deficient.

I enjoy reading comments from all of the no-lifers associating President Trump for this felon's actions. In turn, liberal, corrupt, Democratic Maryland laws and court policies are to blame for the release of this felon. Yet, the same corrupt, liberal Dems are on here placing the blame on the justice system. You created it, you deal with it.

Agreed Lev. The police arrest them, and lock them up. The ADAs undercharge to keep their conviction rates high. Then the judges under sentence for whatever reason, and they're out after serving a negligible slice of their statutory sentence. The revolving door of Maryland justice system. It builds street cred.

Why arrest felons to let them go. Clearly, for profit. What has happened to our world and the justice system?

um, sam...beg pardon, but you previously stated that you only reply like this when someone shoots at you first, yet you drew first blood here. Why?

This is why we DON'T need better gun laws. A felon out in bail, illegally obtains and posseses handguns. He is arrested on a probation violation, (which one was not listed in the article), and no immediate additional felony charges were filed.

This is a failure if the legal system, not the gun laws. New charges should be immediate, and severe, especially with violent, repeat offenders.

By the way Sammy, I can't seem to find a reply to my question yesterday. What was the "threat" that you accused me of making? Hmmmm?

Starting a little early with your daily garbage, aren't you Sammy? Any particular reason why you would post a BS comment like this, other then to perpetuate the fact that you're a total jerk? Or is it because of your insecurity amid doubts about your own mental stability?

It's too early...my happiness was for naught because this DumbA is out on little to no money...why did a known gang member with guns get such a small bail? Annoying...so we allow those with illegal guns and those who look at child pornography out on bail now?!?!?....and some of my fellow neighbors are appalled at allowing nonviolent criminals out of jail when these jokes are out on our streets.

francesca_easa

Agreed.

Thank you for getting this white terrorist off the street. Gang members are terrorists and should be prosecuted as such...no matter what color their skin.
