Maintenance crews were on-site to repair a burst sprinkler head Wednesday at Ballenger Creek Middle School.

There was no fire at the school, Frederick County Public Schools spokesman Michael Doerrer said. A mechanical malfunction caused the burst.

Water from the sprinkler was contained to the school's front lobby, Doerrer said. School dismissal was not affected, but students were kept out of the front lobby for the rest of the school day, he said.

Damage was still being assessed by maintenance personnel when school dismissed Wednesday, he said.
