A fire that destroyed a bus after midnight Sunday at Oakdale High School appears suspicious, according to Kevin Fox, of the Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue Services.
Units from the New Market Fire Co. responded to the school at about 12:08 p.m. Sunday.
“On arrival, they found a school bus fully engulfed,” Fox said.
The units requested assistance from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office and the fire marshal’s office.
Firefighters encountered suspicious circumstances, but Fox said he could not elaborate.
An initial estimate put the damage at about $100,000.
“There’s nothing there,” Frederick County Public School spokesman Michael Doerrer said.
There were no injuries, according to Doerrer.
FCPS bought 23 new school buses this school year, 20 large buses and three smaller buses to the tune of just less than $2 million, according to transportation staff.
Doerrer said he was unsure Sunday which bus had burned.
