South Mountain Creamery in Middletown is expanding into retail, selling its eggs and dairy products in specialty grocery stores across the Mid-Atlantic region.

The creamery, the first on-the-farm dairy processing plant in Maryland, will also sell its products in 19 MOM's Organic Markets. MOM's has locations in Frederick on Buckeystown Pike, and others in the Baltimore and D.C. region.

The Family Room, a specialty store in Laytonsville, also carries South Mountain Creamery products.

“At the time we were looking to source something local and South Mountain is in Maryland and is well-known for their good quality,” said Kim Glab, store co-owner.

South Mountain Creamery owns about 600 dairy cows, and the milk is minimally processed, just 50 feet away from where the cows are milked. The milk is used to make products such as ice cream, yogurt and butter. The business is always expanding, and invites the public to come and tour the operation.
