The Frederick News-Post invites new business owners in Frederick County to share some details about their venture. Business on the Move is a chance to find out more about what’s new in your neighborhood.

Bennigan’s, a national chain of restaurants known for serving burgers and other classic pub fare, opened a franchise in Frederick on Jan. 4.

Dan Poudrier, a co-owner of the new restaurant, told The News-Post about the new Bennigan’s at Market Square, at 221 Shorebird St. in Frederick.

Describe what Bennigan’s offers to customers.

American fare and Irish hospitality. Great food, fun bar, happy-hour specials.

What led you to launch the business in Frederick?

We were looking for a site for a second location and felt Frederick was an excellent fit. The landlords of the Market Square center we are in, JBG Rosenfeld Retail, approached us as “a good fit” for their development, as casual dining in this area is under-served. Frederick County is still very business-friendly and made navigating the development path a lot smoother than many other counties.

What is unique about this Bennigan’s location? What do you do that nobody else does?

We are the second Bennigan’s location in Maryland; the first is in Clarksburg. Bennigan’s is an iconic brand that has been through many changes over the past 40 years, the biggest change in our restaurants, today, is that we have gone back to our roots of providing chef-driven menu choices in a fun and upbeat environment. We believe that casual dining does not have to be “classless dining.” We go above and beyond the call of duty to make sure our guests receive legendary food and service.

Why do you believe Bennigan’s will be successful in Frederick?

Many people in Frederick remember Bennigan’s from the past and are still fans today. We have seen a huge demand for favorite items such as our World-Famous Monte Cristo sandwich — one of Bennigan’s original recipes.
