Even with the summer travel season in high gear, Maryland drivers may have seen the highest gas prices of the year, according to AAA Mid-Atlantic.
With a statewide average price of $2.65 per gallon, Maryland was well below the national average of $2.74, according to the travel organization’s statistics.
The Maryland average is down from $2.81 a month ago and $2.89 a year ago.
Frederick’s average price was $2.61 Monday, down from $2.80 and $2.87 a month and a year ago, respectively.
The highest average in Maryland on Monday was Cumberland, at $2.80, and the lowest was Salisbury, at $2.51.
The drop comes amid concerns of a glut of crude oil on the market, said Jeanette Tejeda de Gomez, a spokeswoman for AAA Mid-Atlantic.
The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, which influences crude oil prices, is scheduled to meet on June 25 and 26 in Vienna, Austria.
