Specialty cake shop opens in downtown Frederick

Staff photo by Sam Yu Lucie Shelton, owner of Cakes to Die For in downtown Frederick, recently holds a tray of some of her baked goods: a cream cheese pie, a cream puff and a lemon blueberry mini cake.

Lucie Shelton always loved to bake when she was younger, and never grew out of it.

"As I got older, my dream was to own my own bakery," Shelton said. "In April, I saw a storefront opportunity in downtown Frederick, so I went for it, and the rest is history."

Shelton's Cakes to Die For business specializes in specialty cakes and goods baked daily.

What is unique about it?

Besides our bakery’s brand, we take pride in offering a variety of tasty baked goods, made daily in house. We love working with clients to bring their ideas to life, offering our own playful spin to really make their cake unique! We even deliver our cakes on-site in a hearse!

What do you do that nobody else does?

We really hear from our frequent customers that they absolutely adore our cinnamon rolls! Besides that, we bake throughout the day, so it’s not uncommon to buy something fresh out of the oven. We embrace accommodating all dietary requests, and can even make cake stands to complement a themed cake.

Why do you believe you'll be successful?

My story! I’m 20 years old, and can say that I have achieved my dream and am doing something I love waking up for every day. I love knowing that I’m an example to others that dreams can really come true! That, and our cakes and other tasty items, of course!
